Equipment

  • 2 Saucepans
  • Stove
  • Stirring spoon or spatula

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 ¼ cup of water
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon of salt

Instructions
 

  • Into one saucepan, add water, salt and the cinnamon stick and heat for 5 minutes, then remove the cinnamon stick.
  • Place the other saucepan over medium-high heat and pour the granulated sugar in and let it heat until it begins to melt, stirring occasionally to prevent the sugar from burning.
  • Once all the sugar has melted into a brown syrup, add the cinnamon boiling water and vanilla extract and stir speedily.
  • Reduce the heat to low and continue stirring for about 30 seconds until it is well-mixed.
  • Remove the syrup from the stove and let it cool before storing it in a jar.

Notes

  • Cinnamon is used to add a warm and slightly spicy flavor to the syrup, although it is optional.
  • If you don’t like vanilla extract, you can replace it with whatever natural flavor extract you love.
