pumpkin spice dalgona coffee

Making a pumpkin spice dalgona coffee at home-Copycat recipe

Kai Jordan

Equipment

  • Bowl
  • Measuring spoons
  • Whisk / electric mixer
  • Mixing spoon
  • Glass
  • Pitcher
  • Saucepan

Ingredients

  • Instant coffee / instant espresso: Instant coffee or instant espresso is the best for this recipe as it yields the frothy coffee texture that we want, unlike ground coffee which won’t mix well with the coffee foam (that we’ll discuss later). This is the source of caffeine in this beverage.
  • Whole milk: Whole milk is the base of the pumpkin spice dalgona coffee and provides the smooth and creamy texture of the beverage
  • Boiling water: Used to help mix the coffee foam ingredients.
  • Ice: Ice cubes are incorporated if the iced version of the drink is being prepared.
  • Pumpkin pie spice: Pumpkin pie spice is used to add delicious and warm pumpkin flavors and as a topping.
  • Pumpkin puree: Pumpkin puree is used to introduce the “fall” pumpkin flavors.
  • Sugar: Sugar is used to sweeten this beverage. The best type of sugar to use in this recipe is granulated white sugar, as it'll mix perfectly in the coffee.

Instructions

  • Begin by preparing the coffee foam we mentioned earlier. To make the foam, mix equal parts of boiling water, instant coffee/espresso, pumpkin pie spice, and sugar in a bowl. Use one tablespoon of each. Whisk the mixture for 4-5 minutes until firm foam forms.
  • Into the pitcher, pour one cup of milk, add one tablespoon of pumpkin puree, and mix until perfectly mixed and smooth. If you want a hot pumpkin spice dalgona coffee, steam the milk first in the saucepan before adding the pumpkin puree.
  • If you're preparing the iced version, place your ice cubes into a tall glass, then pour the pumpkin-flavored milk over the ice, leaving about an inch of space. If you're preparing the hot version, simply serve the pumpkin-flavored milk in a tall glass, leaving space for coffee foam at the top.
  • Scoop the pumpkin-flavored coffee foam and top the beverage, then with a straw or mixing spoon, and mix the foam into the milk. Top the coffee with more coffee foam and if you'd like, dust pumpkin spice on top and enjoy.

Notes

  • The amount of each ingredient used varies depending on the number of servings. The recipe above yields one serving of about 15 oz. of pumpkin spice dalgona coffee.
  • Whole milk is preferred for this recipe, but feel free to use any kind.
  • If you want, you can incorporate light syrups like caramel for more flavor and sweetness.
  • Adjust the amount of instant coffee used to suit how caffeinated you want your pumpkin spice dalgona coffee.
  • Any other sweetener can work for this recipe besides sugar.
