Equipment

  • Espresso machine
  • Serving glass
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 2 shots of espresso
  • ¾ cup of milk
  • ½ cup of ice
  • 2 tablespoons of white chocolate sauce
  • Whipped cream

Instructions

  • Prepare 2 shots of espresso and let it cool down to room temperature, or you can place it in the fridge to chill it.
  • Add the white chocolate sauce to the milk and stir well until mixed.
  • In the serving glass, add the ice, pour the espresso shots over it, followed by the milk mixture, and stir to combine (this is optional).
  • Top off with some whipped cream and your drink is ready to be enjoyed.

Notes

  • When serving your drink, you don't have to stir the espresso and milk completely, if you want the aesthetic layered look for the perfect IG post. I prefer to stir for an even taste.
  • If you don't have an espresso machine, you can use a Moka pot or French press, or your preferred coffee brewing method, to make really strong espresso-like coffee.
  • I used the Starbucks Espresso roast (dark roast) because it is what Starbucks supposedly uses. You can, however, use your preferred blend of coffee, but I can't guarantee the taste will be the same. As a last resort, you can opt for instant espresso or instant coffee.
  • As for the white chocolate sauce, I used Torani White Chocolate sauce. It comes highly recommended. There are, however, many other brands like Hollander. If you want to replicate the exact taste then you can look for Fontana Frappuccino White Chocolate Mocha sauce, it’s what Starbucks uses. Whatever sauce you decide on, ensure is meant for iced drinks.
  • You can also save some money and make your white chocolate sauce. Just melt half a cup of white chocolate chips or shredded white chocolate. I like to add the homemade white chocolate to the espresso while it is still hot so that it’s easier to mix. Plus, the stirring action allows the espresso to cool faster.
  • You can also make your own whipped cream if you want to save even more money. Just whisk together some heavy cream and vanilla syrup, until you achieve the right consistency.
  • Starbucks uses 2% whole milk, I used skim milk for this recipe, to reduce the overall fat content, given the addition of whipped cream. You can use any milk option, but ensure it's unsweetened, and be aware that the plant-based options may alter the overall taste of the drink.
  • For extra chocolatey goodness, you can drizzle the inner lining of your serving glass with the white chocolate sauce, and again drizzle some on the whipped cream, or sprinkle some chocolate chips on top. I mostly like to sprinkle a mixture of white, milk, and dark chocolate chips.
  • Try to use filtered water to make the best ice cubes. Alternatively, to avoid your drink being watered down over time, you can use coffee ice cubes instead, as Starbucks does for their cold beverage options.
