Max Morgenthaler, a chemist and coffee specialist, led the mission to make instant coffee that could be made by simply adding water. Initially, they tried to make the coffee in tablet form, but that fell through. Then finally, on 1 April 1938, they created Nescafe Coffee as a powder. The name Nescafe is a mashup of Nestle and Café. It was first made in Switzerland.
