I found Love last year in February, and we had a wonderful time at Starbucks on Valentine’s day. My partner ordered their Love on the Rocks refresher, which blew my mind away. This drink is not on their official menu, but you can still order it all year round from their secret menu. I love its red color, which symbolizes Love and gives you a sweet feeling of pure bliss and Love. Read on to find out what it is made up of.

Brief History of the drink

I first tasted this refresher drink on our first date on Valentine’s day. My partner asked the barista what special Refresher they could recommend, and voila! We were in Love.

So what exactly is the Starbucks Love on the Rocks Refresher?

The Starbucks Love on the Rocks drink is a fruity iced smoothy-like tea commonly enjoyed during valentines season. It originated in the US when Starbucks lovers wanted all the red and pink drinks they could have during Valentine’s season.

At first, this drink was prepared using Very Berry Hibiscus refresher as its base drink. This had always been one of my favorite refreshers, so when it was discontinued, I was broken. I had lost two of my best drinks at once; the Very Berry Hibiscus and the Love on the Rocks.

While perusing social media, I read another way to order the Love on the Rocks drink. Social media was abuzz with the new recipe. Since then, it has become a sensation during Valentine’s season and all year long.

Starbucks Love On The Rocks Refresher Overview

What’s in a Starbucks Love On The Rocks Refresher – (ingredients)

The Love on the Rocks refresher has its base drink as the Iced Passion Tango Tea. Its main ingredients include

  • Water- this is what is used to brew the herbal passion tea
  • Ice- This ingredient assists in making the drink even more refreshing than it already is. Imagine that iced Refresher on a sunny romantic afternoon, lovely!
  • Hibiscus- that tart flavor of the hibiscus has always gotten me. The color also adds to the redness of Love on the Rocks.
  • Citric acid is an excellent preservative and adds to the drink’s flavor.
  • Apple juice- Part of the reason this drink is enjoyable is because of its fruity taste. Apple juice adds to that.
  • Lemongrass- One unknown importance of lemongrass is that it promotes digestion.

All these ingredients blended and mixed with the raspberry syrup make up the romantic drink that almost everyone in Love craves.

  • Jar
  • Electric kettle/ stove top
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Blender
  • Cup

  • Coconut milk
  • Strawberry puree
  • Raspberry syrup
  • Ice
  • Tazo passion tea bag
  • Water
  • Non-fat milk
  • Vanilla syrup

  • First, place water in your kettle and let it boil.
  • Once done, keep the passion tea bag in your water, and allow it to mix well.
  • Now put the ice into your cocktail shaker, pour the passion tea and shake vigorously.
  • In your big cup, pour in the iced passion tea and add the raspberry syrup. You will also include coconut milk and strawberry puree.
  • For a final touch, add the milk and vanilla syrup in a blender and blend till frothy and creamy. This will be your cold foam to add on top of your drink.

  • When I first tried this drink, I used 2 tea bags for one serving, It was not as good as using 1 teabag. Therefore, it would be good to stick to a teabag per serving.
  • Because you are preparing iced tea, boiling your water to completion would be a waste of time and electricity. Simmered water will do just fine.
  • Simple syrup is the best sweetener to use for iced drinks. For this case, put sugar and water in a saucepan and let it simmer on low heat as you stir until the sugar dissolves. Then let it cool. Although unsweetened passion tea is usually what is used at Starbucks, if you wish to sweeten your refresher drink, then this simple syrup will do.
