When my niece first recommended the Paris Tea from Dutch Bros to me, I hesitated. I usually stick to my plain old Americanos when ordering from this drive-thru, plus I’m not much of a tea person. However, I admit I can’t look back after giving it a try. This is one of their best drink items! If you are a skeptic like me, this post will tell you everything you would like to know about Paris Tea and give you a great copycat recipe.

Brief History of the Drink

The Dutch Bros is a famous American drive-thru chain that started in 1992 in Grants Pass, Oregon, after two Dutch brothers, Dane and Travis Boersma, founded it. It’s famous for selling various beverages, from energy drinks to coffee and milkshakes. Sometime in 2018, the Paris Tea (otherwise known as the Caught in Sweet Sunrise or Iced Sweet Sunrise) was developed as a secret menu item. Although now it isn’t much of a ‘secret’ since it’s widely popular.

What’s in A Dutch Bros Paris Tea – (Ingredients)

Paris Tea is a sweet blend of black tea and fruity syrups. Find out more about these ingredients below:

  • Black Tea – Dutch Bros uses high-quality black tea as the base of this drink. The black tea is of medium body and smooth in taste with a great aroma. It’s not overpowering and is suitable for first-time tea tasters.
  • Peach Syrup – Dutch Bros use the Torani brand of syrups to flavor their drinks, and conveniently they can be found on Amazon (but they do go out of stock quite fast). Their peach syrup is strong in flavor and sweetness.
  • Passion Fruit Syrup – This syrup adds a more tropical fruity flavor and gives the drink a fantastic scent.
  • Orange Syrup – Paris Tea also has orange syrup in the mix, giving the tea sweetness, color, and orange flavor.
  • Banana Syrup –The final fruit syrup in this tea is banana syrup which works perfectly at elevating its tropical notes. It also makes the Paris Tea smell heavenly. However, banana syrup is not a bold flavor in this drink.

There are many ways you can make your Paris Tea even more delicious. Adding a pump of lime syrup accentuates the fruity flavors in the tea and adds acidity, which cuts the sugar perfectly. Adding coconut or pineapple syrup also makes the Paris Tea more tropical tasting. And finally, you can request raw sugar sprinkles as a topping for a more Instagrammable drink. If you want, you can also ask for extra pumps of peach, passion fruit, banana, or orange syrups.

Equipment

  • 3 saucepans
  • Fine mesh sieve or strainer
  • Airtight container or jar

Ingredients

  • 2 black tea bags
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 2 peaches chopped
  • 2 passion fruit
  • 2 oranges sliced
  • 1 ripe banana peeled and chopped
  • Ice

Instructions

  • In one of the saucepans, make the black tea by heating the tea bags in 1 cup of water for approximately 5 minutes, then allow to cool completely. Discard the tea bags.
  • Add the chopped banana, ½ cup of sugar, and ½ a cup of water in another saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer for 3 minutes but do not let it boil. Stir gently to dissolve the sugar but be careful not to break up the banana pieces. Remove from heat, strain well to remove large chunks, and allow to cool.
  • Put the chopped peaches, passion fruit flesh, and sliced oranges in another saucepan with the remaining ½ cup of water and ½ cup of sugar. Bring to a boil for 5-10 minutes, then strain and allow to cool.
  • Add the cooled black tea to the banana syrup and the peach/passionfruit/orange syrup, and top with ice.
  • Store refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Notes

  • If you’re in a time crunch, you can use orange juice, peach juice, and passion juice instead of making the syrups from scratch. Simply prepare the black tea as instructed above, then add the store-bought juices.
  • You can also opt to use store-bought syrup if available.
  • The sugar may be altered to suit one’s taste. Use 2 cups of sugar if you like extra sweet, or omit the sugar altogether for a sugar-free version.
  • Use 3 tea bags if you want a more caffeinated result.
