The history of coffee in Poland is tied to the coffee culture in Europe. The Poles first imported coffee from Turkey which they received with suspicion and dubbed it a ‘devilish drink’ due to its dark color.
However, when they started importing coffee from the Netherlands and added milk, the country’s attitude towards coffee changed significantly and the demand for coffee increased significantly.
Today, Poland is the largest coffee importer in Eastern Europe and the fifth largest in Europe. The Polish coffee consumption has also grown to an annual average of 26kg and generates approximately $281 million as of 2023.
